I've been craving a good adventure novel lately, so if someone has a good one in mind, then shoot it at me =O All I seem to have around here are science fiction books

and they're all good, but it's all I've been reading since high school and the adventure novels are what I miss most from my heavier "reading days".
I'm in the mood for something that doesn't have a sequel ((I don't care much for series =_= trilogies are hard enough for me to get through)) and is about 150-400 pages long. I like kid/teenage/college-aged lead characters and I favor strong character development and interesting plot devices. Please nothing with dragons, griffons, made-up worlds, elves and magic ((those things irritate me more often than not because of their lack of originality... I've only ever finished ONE fantasy book in my LIFE and it wasn't even that good

)). Things that take place in the future are fine... but not
too far in the future. Historical novels work. Keep talking animals to a minimum, please ((the talking animals in my stories are enough for me right now XP I need a change of pace very badly)).
The first book that comes to mind as an example of an adventure novel I LOVE is "Memory Boy" by Will Weaver

. I only picked it up because it wasn't very long and the back of the book mentioned Rainier erupting *shot* but it turned out to be a really amazing piece of writing and among the most memorable books I've ever read. Not to mention I
really loved the ending

. Another that is high up on my list is "Touching Spirit Bear" by Ben Mickaelsen ((sp?)) for its intense character development and my inability to stop reading the damn thing *_* I also like "Rescue Josh McGuire" by the same author. "Thunder Cave" and "Zach's Lie" by Roland Smith are also notables ;3 and for my mountain-climbing stories fix, there's "Banner in the Sky" by James Ramsey Ullman and "Year of the Leopard Song" by Eric Campbell.
So yes, something along the lines of those mentioned above: short and sweet and not too complicated. I'm not in the mood for epics or anything like that right now... just something easy to read to fill my craving for a good adventure book.
