finally finished my contest entry to *Oregon-Artists "Favorite Thing About Oregon" contest!!! 8D it wasnt hard at all for me to choose my subject...

-Favorite Thing About Oregon-

my favorite thing about Oregon is its lengthy and interesting volcanic history 8D ((im a volcanology major, so shush you)). volcanism in Oregon started about 53 million years ago during the Eocene when an offshore plate rapidly subducted beneath Oregon, forming the state's first andesitic eruptions. while those ancient volcanoes have long gone, with only small remnants remaining, many more volcanic events have happened in the ages since then. my entry is of several different of my favorite volcanic features in Oregon 8D and not all are volcanoes... just formations formed because of volcanic activity!

pictured here are: Blue Basin, Crater Lake ((our only National Park!)), Newberry Caldera, Three Sisters, Lava Butte, Picture Gorge Basalts, and the Painted Hills. there was a lot more i wanted to put on this D: but wouldnt fit! like Steens Mountain, Mt Jefferson, mt Hood, Mt McLaughlin, Crack-in-the-Ground, McKenzie Pass, Fort Rock, Smith Rock, Lava Cast Forest, Lava Caves, and probably a lot i forgot to mention as well D:

more reasons why the volcanic geology is my favorite thing... well, even people who arent into geology must admit... THEYRE FREAKIN GORGEOUS!!!! seriously... the volcanism of this state has created amazing landscapes in all corners of the state!! its amazing how few people actually go to most of these places...

for people who think theres nothing of interest in Oregon, you are SO wrong! :| theres so many amazing geology locales that i havent even been to all of them yet! :omg: ((though ive been to most of the ones i mentioned))

technical stuff: digital painting, chalk brush, worked on and off for a few days, references were photos i took myself! :lol:

This is really gorgeous artwork. It's nice to see the beauty and majesty of these different landscapes. And I'm so proud I recognize these now! x3 Means you did a great job of keeping them close-to-original. Plus, it's awesome to be able to see these all in one picture. It's a great way to express the beauty you've shown me of Oregon.

The colouring is more than lovely, and I wish you the best of luck in your contest! <3

lol awesome xD im actually going to be going to Portland today for the Rose Cup races ;) couple hours drive but do it every year xD

Crater Lake is an amazing place *_* i am happy i can live so close to it x3

I love how used used a bunch of different colors for different mountainous aras :)
